Our work
We give 1 hot meal twice a week to 16 elders in Hinche. Our goal is to offer a daily meal to all elders that are starving in Hinche and nearby areas.
Phase 1
Our pilot project was launched on September 11th of 2020. Considering the living cost, the burden of the pandemic, and our financial limitation we started with 10 of the neediest people recruited by our staff in Hinche. They have been served 2 meals a week on Mondays and Fridays. With the growing number of people in need who are manifesting their desire to be part of the program, we felt compelled to add 6 more people which brings us to a total of 16. However, we urgently need more funding to be able to serve at least 50 people by the end of this pilot project in June 2021 since more than one hundred are already qualified for the program. For now, 4 of our seniors are completely home-bound. They receive the food at their house thanks to our volunteers. The rest of them come to our place to get their food.
Phase 2
By september 2021, our goal is to build our first community kitchen cafeteria to provide a daily meal to up to one hundred seniors in Hinche and the nearby areas.
We have already localised a number of elderly people who are in serious need for food but, because of a lack of resources such as money, transportation, and a place to prepare food for more people and volunteers, we have to put these people on our waiting list.
With more funding we will build a community kitchen cafeteria in Hinche. It will allow us to have a decent place to welcome and serve those who can come get their food with dignity and enough space for our staff to prepare the lunch boxes to be delivered to the homebound people. To prevent waste, everyday the rest of the food will be sold at a very low price to raise money or given to very poor families with young children and enfants. The community kitchen cafeteria will also allow us to buy from the farmers, accept and stock local donations, and use them wisely to the benefit of the community. We will also buy at least two motorcycles for delivery. Out of delivery hours, these motorcycles will be rented to motorcyclists in the taxi business so we can also raise money for the program.
Phase 3
By 2025, our goal is to build Community Kitchen Cafeterias in the communities where FOSH is present to serve all qualified seniors.
